I spent a decade or so doing what I thought a young person was supposed to do in order to be successful. I went to college, then grad school. I got married and got a job as an engineer working for the federal government. I got a dog. I bought a house and got a mortgage. I even quit my cubicle job, moved across the country, and started over again as a brewer helping start a small business.

Other than the marriage and the dog, things just weren’t clicking. It seemed like I had everything I thought I was supposed to have and I just wasn’t happy. It took quitting my job and thru-hiking the Appalachian Trail to conclude I wasn’t content with the culture surrounding me.

So we set out to change things. We moved to Vermont, bought 23 acres of forested land, and we’ve spent the past 6 years building a homestead. This is our Contented Culture. Now that we’ve made ours, I’d like to help you make yours.
